Start racing in Texas
What a first-time racer or karting parent needs to know before the first TKL weekend. If we missed something, ask on Discord.
Pick a class
Kids can start racing at attained age 5 (the age they turn during the season) in Rotax Nano MAX & LO206 Kid Kart. It runs Saturday only and the entry is $75. From there, racers move up through the Rotax MAX, Briggs LO206, Tillotson and FZ125 Shifter classes.

Get a kart and an engine
You bring the chassis. TKL does not sell karts, so we have no brand to push. Ask on Discord for chassis advice.
We do rent and sell Rotax engines and keep small parts on hand. Engine rentals and race tires are in the TKL store on Alpha Timing.
Enter a round
Every round is entered through Alpha Timing. Pick the event, pick your class and check out. The live entry list shows who else is coming.

Season passHow a race weekend runs
TKL races Saturday and Sunday, and Friday is move-in day. Tracks run their own practice on Friday. That is separate from TKL, so check with the venue if you want the extra laps.
- Friday
- Move-in day. Get your pit set up. Any practice that day is run by the track, not TKL.
- Saturday
- Practice, qualifying and the first races. Kid Kart runs its whole program on Saturday.
- Sunday
- Warm-up, races and the finals.
Pick up your transponder before your first practice session. It is mandatory.
Session times post on Discord and Alpha Timing before each round. Reserve your spot on the pit stall map.
What to bring
Your kart, plus a helmet, driving suit, gloves and shoes. The Race Rotax rule set lists the safety gear your class requires, so check it before you buy.
Bring shade for your pit stall. It is Texas.
Where it can lead
Every round counts toward the RMC Texas championship and the Rotax US Finals pathway. You don't have to be chasing Rotax to race with us, though. TKL is for anyone who wants to race competitively in Texas.
